West Point announces deer hunting program

West Point announces deer hunting program - Nearly 10,000 acres will open for deer hunting this fall to general public hunters holding New York State big game hunting licenses and deer management permits for wildlife management unit 3P. Hunting will be permitted during the regular big-game season, the late special archery season and the special muzzleloader season.
The West Point Military Reservation is located within unit 3P, which includes other portions of southeastern Orange County.
Deer management permits allow hunters to take one anterless deer in addition to any other deer a licensed big-game hunter may take. The state Department of Environmental Conservation issues deer management permits directly through its license-issuing agents. Deer hunters have until October 1 to obtain permits.
Deer hunters with a 3P permit should contact the West Point Natural Resources Branch at 845-938-3857 after October 1 for specific operating procedures for the deer hunting season.
