New concept in waterfowl hunting coming to West Tenn. Waterfowl hunters all across the state of Tennessee will get to apply to hunt in a brand new waterfowl hunting unit this year located at Bogota, Tenn. Waterfowl hunters wishing to hunt this new unit will apply by application (mail or internet) as soon as the state waterfowl season is set by the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Commission in August.
The application will allow a party of up to four hunters to apply for a three-day hunt (two days on opening weekend) in priority of their choice. Hunters 16 years of age or younger may apply, however they must apply in a party with one adult 18 years of age or older.
If selected, permits will be issued for specified dates and unit to be hunted. A non-refundable $10 application fee will be required by all applicants.
The new Bogota waterfowl unit is designed to allow for a quality waterfowl hunting experience. The hunt units will be walk-in, temporary blinds only. Small non-motorized boats will be allowed. Hunters will be allowed to leave decoys out during their three-day hunt, but must remove them at the completion of the hunt. All hunting will cease on these units at 3 p.m. each day.
Hunters will not be required to check in or out, however hunters will be encouraged to complete a harvest survey upon completion of the hunt. The hunting units will be designed to allow all weather vehicle access to each unit so hunters may unload their equipment.
A parking area will be located away from the hunting unit. Each hunting unit will have a combination of grain crops and moist soil plants for a waterfowl food source.
“If everything stays on schedule we should have five units ready for this year’s waterfowl season,” stated Carl Wirwa, TWRA Area Manager. “Our goal is to have as many as 14 units ready for hunting by 2007.”
