Hunting allowed in State Forests
CONSERVATION hunting will be permitted in nine State Forests in the Northern Tablelands, including Copeton near Gilgai and Mt Topper near Tingha.Member for the Northern Tablelands, Richard Torbay, said conservation hunting would allow specially licenced and accredited hunters to play a greater role in controlling feral animals on public lands. He said the use of conservation hunters had been a success in other states.
The Game Council NSW (GCNSW) has been established to regulate the system.
It requires hunters to belong to a GCNSW-approved hunting organisation, be accredited for training in the R-Licence category and abide by a prescribed code of practice.
Successful applicants can target pigs, goats, foxes, rabbits, cats, hares, wild deer and introduced species of game birds.
