free hunting licenses

Legislature wasted time on free hunting licenses After reading that the Legislature passed a bill allowing people 100 years or older to hunt for free, I would like to propose a rational argument that this was the biggest waste of time in Maine legislative history. For the purpose of this argument, please assume my reasonable statistical assumptions are correct.
There are 1.3 million people in Maine.
Of that 1.3 million, only about 100 people are over 100 years of age.
Probably 70 out of that 100 are female, leaving only 30 men. Out of the 30 males eligible to hunt for free, likely only five or six are in any condition to do so.
At $22 a pop, our Legislature was willing to pass along a whopping $110 in freebie hunting licenses that will only hang ceremoniously on nursing home walls.
For a state mired in debt, oppressed with taxation, and with little economic hope for the future, it is comforting to know that the big issues such as centenarian hunting privileges are being addressed. But don’t worry, those in Augusta recently returned to more pressing matters such as making Moxie the official state soft drink.
