Deer Hunting In The City Limits Bessemer
August 23rd, 2006 by Administrator
The city of Bessemer is looking at ways to control the increasing deer population within the city limits.
One solution? Allowing archery deer hunting in town. That’s what the City Council considered at a Monday night meeting.
Council members listened to citizens’ comments.
“I don’t want somebody walking through my property,” said resident Jerry Londo. “I don’t want to pick up a dead deer on my property. I don’t want the confrontation of seeing a hunter cross my property.”
But DNR warden Grant Emery, who’s also a resident, said the rules are well-thought out. For example, they don’t allow an archery hunt within 450 feet of an occupied dwelling, and recreational trespass–someone running on your property to look for deer–is forbidden.
So far, the City Council has not made a decision on the deer-hunting issue.
