ConsCom to discuss archery deer hunting
PEPPERELL — The Conservation Commission will be discussing whether to extend the trial archery deer hunt at the town-owned Heald Street Orchard for an additional year at its Tuesday, Sept. 6 meeting, at 7 p.m.
In the past three years seven permits for bow hunting from temporary tree or ground stands have been available for hunting in designated areas of the orchard.
To be qualified for a permit, a hunter must have had no major fish and wildlife convictions and must have taken a bow hunter safety course.
The hunt has taken place during the Massachusetts archery deer-hunting season, from mid-October to mid-November only. Per Massachusetts law, no hunting is allowed on Sundays.
Since the archery hunting program was begun four years ago, the ConsCom has received no complaints about it from the public.
Written comments may be sent to ConsCom’s office at One Main Street, Pepperell, MA 01463.
