Apply for Washington’s new multiple-season deer and elk permits

Deadline April 5 for multi-season hunt permit - Hunters have until April 5 to apply for Washington’s new multiple-season deer and elk permits.
Hunters may enter a drawing for 1,500 multiple-season deer permits and 500 multiple-season elk permits which allow them to participate in archery, muzzleloader and rifle general hunting seasons for 2006.
Those selected must follow all rules for each season. Hunters can apply once for each species and are limited to harvesting one animal.
Washington has required hunters to make a weapons choice by species since the 1980s.
But House Bill 1211, approved by the state Legislature in 2005, authorizes the state Fish and Wildlife Commission to offer multiple-season permits.
“This is a great opportunity for hunters to extend their hunting season this fall,” said Dave Ware, game manager for the state Department of Fish and Wildlife.
The multiple-season permit application is available at license dealers or by calling 866-246-9453.
The permit application costs $5.48. A hunting license is not required to apply.
Washington residents selected for the special permit must buy a $164.25 multiple-season tag, along with a regular hunting license.
Successful applicants will be selected by random computer drawing.
The permits are anticipated to generate about $300,000 for the Department of Fish and Wildlife.
